7:30pm – 9:30pm
Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts
This hot Ukrainian folk-punk quartet, whose name means “give-take” in old Slavonic, stirs up a mesmerizing sound that melds traditional Ukrainian folk music, African grooves, Eastern colors, and a contemporary sensibility the band calls “ethno-chaos.” The dramatic singers of DakhaBrakha accompany themselves on cello, accordion, and percussion, with Indian, Arabic, African, Russian, and Australian traditional instrumentation. Their astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocal range creates a trans-national sound, with an overall effect that is simply entrancing. “...everything from punk-pop to traditional Ukrainian songs in cool yet beguiling textures..." - National Public Radio. "You may never again get a chance to see anything like the irresistible, wonderful sublime genius of DakhaBrakha." – Live Taos
