EXPERT PANEL & DISCUSSION

HURRICANE HARVEY and HURRICANE IRMA: Climate Science, Recovery & Resilience

Thursday, September 21, 2017 12-1pm UConn Avery Point Remote Attendance Option

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN SEVERE WEATHER EVENTS? HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND, RECOVER AND BE RESILIENT WHEN DISASTER STRIKES?

The news has been full of the devastating impacts that Harvey and Irma have had on the states of Texas, Florida, and neighboring islands and questions are being raised about the role of climate change in hurricanes and what we should do when hurricanes hit. To help shed some light on this topic and to share Connecticut's experience with severe weather response and recovery, CIRCA is hosting an expert panel discussion.

Faculty from the University of Connecticut will explain the basics of hurricane science and what we do and do not know about the relationship between these events and climate change. The panel will also be joined by the Connecticut Insurance Department to discuss Connecticut's recovery after Irene and Sandy and the latest approaches in our state and across the nation to be better prepared and resilient to the impacts of hurricanes.

This event is free and open to the public. The moderated panel will be followed by an opportunity to take questions from the audience.

The general public and UConn faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend. If you cannot make it in person, please join us by phone at the number below.
