Presented by: Donghui (Don) Zhu, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Director of Graduate Program, Department of Biomedical Engineering-University of North Texas

Title: "Biometals for Regenerative and Translational Medicine"

Biography: Donghui (Don) Zhu, Ph.D., earned his doctorate in Bioengineering at the University of Missouri-Columbia under the guidance of Dr. James Lee. His Ph.D. projects aimed at neuro-engineering for treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Following his Ph.D., Dr. Zhu trained at University of Rochester medical center with Dr. Berislav Zlokovic for neurovascular and stroke research in the field of regenerative medicine. He then joined the NSF Engineering Research Center homed at North Carolina AT State University as an Assistant Professor in 2010 where his research focused on biodegradable metallic materials for tissue engineering and regeneration. Dr. Zhu moved to University of North Texas in 2016, and currently he has a broad research interest in nano-biomaterials, drug delivery, vascular disorder, neurological disease, and cancer. He has secured over $3 million total research funding from NIH since 2012, co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Dr. Zhu also serves on several editorial boards of scientific journals and numerous grant proposal review panels including NIH, NSF, and NASA.
