"Understanding Global Health in the Context of Human Rights"

Thursday, September 13, 2018, 9:30 - 10:20 AM, McHugh (formerly Laurel Hall) 102

In this talk, Dr. Joia Mukherjee will explore the history and present underpinnings of the right to health, and its implications for the emerging field of Global Health. Her new text book, An Introduction to Global Health Delivery: Practice, Equity and Human Rights (Oxford University Press, 2017), explores the challenges of delivering health care in the world’s poorest communities -- and how to overcome these challenges. Dr. Mukherjee is Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, where she teaches health professionals and students from around the world. Since 2000, she has served as Chief Medical Officer of Partners In Health, an international medical charity with programs in the United States, Haiti, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Kazakhstan and the Navajo nation. The work of Partners In Health is featured in the documentary "Bending the Arc," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2016. This event is sponsored by the Research Program on Global Health & Human Rights at the Human Rights Institute.
