Dr. Leta Hong Fincher Speaks

Wednesday, October 1, 2014
1:30pm – 3:00pm

Storrs Campus
WGSS Seminar Room 425, Beach Hall

Dr. Leta Hong Fincher is the first American who received a Ph.D. from the Department of Sociology at Tsinghua University in Beijing. She will talk about her book, Leftover Women: The Resurgence of Gender Inequality in China, in which she analyzes a new state media campaign to stigmatize single women in their late-20s, and debunks the claim that women overall have fared well as a result of China's market-style, economic reforms.
