Sunday, February 1, 2015
1:00pm – 4:30pm

Repeats weekly on Sunday and Saturday until 03/29/2015.

Storrs Campus
William Benton Museum of Art, 245 Glenbrook Road

Serving as a celebration of both the sport of basketball itself and UConn’s nationally recognized men’s and women’s teams, In the Paint: Basketball in Contemporary Art speaks to the sport’s complex nature through a selection of artworks that incorporate concepts of performance, competition, branding, and spectacle. Structural similarities between the spheres of sport and art become clear, where athletes and artists alike become engrossed in practice, promotion, and play as they refine their skills and dominate their chosen fields. Photographs and trophies illustrate the unprecedented triumphs of the UConn basketball teams.

Featured artists include Janet Biggs, Brothers Costacos, Awol Erizku, Dario Escobar, Robert Indiana, Sharon Lockhart, Daniel Petraitis, Paul Pfeiffer, Lucien Smith, and Hank Willis Thomas.
