Getting Money Savvy Workshop

Why is it important to save money? How can I reach my financial goals? What can I do to avoid fraud and protect my money? These questions and more will be answered in a lively and informative workshop. You will learn about your money personality and relationship with money as well as techniques that can help save money and overcome barriers to reaching your goals. Important tips on how to avoid identity theft and common banking scams, and minimize your risk of becoming a victim will be discussed. The workshop will be held Thursday, February 26th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the American Job Center, Shaw’s Cove Six in New London. Kathleen Titsworth, Banking Education Coordinator with the Connecticut Department of Banking and Faye Griffiths-Smith, Family Finance Educator with UConn Extension will be the presenters. The workshop is free, but pre-registration is required and can be made by calling (860) 439 – 7400.

This workshop, as well as several other events, is planned in celebration of Connecticut Saves Week which takes place Monday, February 23 through Saturday, February 28. Connecticut Saves is a new social marketing campaign designed to encourage Connecticut citizens to assess their saving and save regularly for their goals. Governor Dannel P. Malloy, has issued a proclamation in honor of Connecticut Saves Week. The Connecticut Saves Campaign is coordinated by UConn Extension with the support of these partners: Connecticut Department of Banking; Connecticut Department of Labor; Connecticut State Library; Hartford Job Corps; Human Resources Agency of New Britain, Inc.; Naugatuck Head Start; New Haven County Extension Resource Council, Inc.; New Haven Free Public Library; and People’s United Bank. The “Saves Campaign” also welcomes these organizations as new partners: American Eagle Credit Union; Community Renewal Team; Liberty Bank; and the Connecticut Association for Human Services. The Bank of America Foundation is supporting the Connecticut Saves Week Campaign through a mini-grant.
