The Rainbow Center's Out to Lunch Lecture Series continues the semester with a presentation by Paola Chanes, entitled, "Let’s Talk about Sex: Experiences with Sexual Health Education Abroad."

Access to comprehensive sex education is a goal for all people independent of age or location. However, it is a particularly important topic for orphaned and vulnerable children and adults who are at high risk of contracting STIs or living with HIV. “Let’s talk about sex: experiences with sexual health education abroad” will discuss experiences working in Haiti, Uganda and Kenya with regards to protective and non-protective programs and policies for sexual health education. Cultural and social determined of health will be covered.

Paola Chanes-Mora is a public health Ph.D. student at the University of Connecticut. She completed her M.P.H. from UConn and is also a Certified Health Education Specialist. Her undergraduate education was completed at Boston University where she received a bachelor of art in religion. She is founder and president of Operation Unisson, a non-profit organization that works to improve the health of youth in Haiti, Uganda, and Kenya. Her academic interest is exploring orphaned and vulnerable child sexual health and HIV status internationally. She is also a Graduate Assistant in the Health Education Office, part of the Department of Wellness and Prevention Services at UConn.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunches.
