Alternative Activism in Art

Thursday, February 26, 2015
6:00pm – 7:00pm

Storrs Campus
PRLACC Program Room

Art has the unique ability to include and transcend the media and printed journalism. It reaches audiences on another level and platform. This presentation focuses on the art of Cuban-born Magdalena Campos-Pons, specifically her recent project FeFa. While working specifically with the Cuban diaspora, she weaves together the essence of Cuban identity, contemporary politics and social activism. Student Ashley Frato finds great inspiration in Campos-Pons work both as an artist and activist. She has began to make work in reaction to the social responsibility she feels as an emerging. Please stop by the center to learn more about the power of art in activism.
