An outspoken transgender advocate, Laverne Cox is the first trans-woman to produce and star in her own television show, TRANSForm Me, appear on the cover of TIME Magazine [June 9, 2014] and be nominated for an EMMY. She is also the first trans-woman of color to have a leading role on a mainstream scripted television show, Orange is the New Black. She received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for the role of “Sophia Burset.”

A critically acclaimed actress, Cox has won rave reviews for the groundbreaking role of “Sophia Burset,” an incarcerated African American transgender woman. TIME magazine named “Sophia Burset” the 4th most influential fictional character of 2013. She is also a recipient of the Dorian rising star award for Orange is the New Black.

TICKETS: UCONN STORRS UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY: FREE (one ticket per UConn ID) Tickets will be available for pickup at the Jorgensen Box Office from March 23-April 22, 2015. No online ticket sales.

GENERAL PUBLIC (including UConn Grad Students, Faculty, Staff): $25 Tickets will be available starting on April 6, 2015, depending on availability.

Doors open at 6:30 pm.
