UConn Early College Experience is hosting a 3-day American Studies Summer Institute on teaching interdisciplinarity and critical thinking in American Studies. This event is only open to certified UConn ECE American Studies instructors.

Sessions will run from 9:00am to 3:30pm, August 4-6, 2015, on the Storrs Campus.

Morning sessions feature guest speakers, suggesting strategies for pushing students to think about objects, history, literature, and popular culture in complex, interdisciplinary ways.

Afternoons offer an opportunity to put these discussions into action, working with UConn’s Archives and Special Collections. Time will be spent learning how to help students access resources and building teaching plans that use a range of objects, documents, and texts to stimulate critical thinking and writing skills.

Light breakfast and lunch are included each day. The institute is free of cost. Participants have the option of commuting daily or staying on campus or in a dormitory.
