"Accelerating the Transition to Sustainable Agriculture Biotechnology"

Dr. Leslie Shor, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering

Climate change and population growth are placing large and growing pressures on global food production in the next 20-50 years. Major challenges to agricultural sustainability include increasing demands on water resources for irrigation and widespread use of agriculture chemicals that adversely impact water quality. Development of new agriculture biotechnologies that are more sustainable is slow and costly, hampered in part by structural complexity of the soil system and its spatial and temporal variability. This talk with Dr. Leslie Shor (Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering) will describe ongoing research in my lab focused on creating synthetic micro-structured systems aimed at accelerating the development of more sustainable agriculture biotechnologies.
