Title: Current Topics in Bone Health: The Calcium Conundrum and Newer Therapies for Osteoporosis

Learning Objectives: Participants will (be able to):

1. Discuss recent data on currently approved medications. 2. Describe current concerns regarding calcium and CVD. 3. Understand the mechanisms of action of the newer osteoporosis medications in the pipeline, and describe expected outcomes based on the published data on newer osteoporosis medications.

Target Audience: The Department of Medicine faculty, housestaff and students, though many topics will be of interest to housestaff, students and other faculty members within the University of CT Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine..

Accreditation: The University of Connecticut School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Connecticut School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Dr. Taxel will not be discussing the use of off -labeled use of any products. Dr. Mirza will be discussing the published data on Abaloparatide and Romosozumab, medications not currently FDA approved for osteoporosis.
