This is a joint meeting with the Diachronic Syntax reading group. We’ll be discussing Kai von Fintel (1995) “The Formal Semantics of Grammaticalization,” NELS 25 Proceedings (GLSA, UMass Amherst),Volume 2: Papers from the Workshops on Language Acquisition & Language Change, pp. 175-189. The UConn Meaning Group meets on a regular (mostly weekly) basis to discuss recent and ongoing work in the areas of Semantics, Pragmatics, and Philosophy of Language. It consists primarily of faculty and graduate students in the Departments of Linguistics and Philosophy, but is open to anyone interested in the topics.
