Title: Caring for Those Who Serve: Promoting Mental Health Among Veterans

Learning Objectives: Participants will (be able to): 1. Discuss the prevalence, morbidity, and mortality associated with common mental health conditions among Veterans. 2. Describe common screening tools which can be used in primary care to identify Veterans with depression, suicidality, PTSD, and substance abuse. 3. Apply screening procedures in primary care practice to increase identification of Veterans with mental health needs and treat or refer them to specialty mental health care.

Target Audience: The Department of Medicine faculty, housestaff and students, though many topics will be of interest to housestaff, students and other faculty members within the University of CT School of Medicine and Dental Medicine..

Accreditation: The University of Connecticut School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
