Tap dance, America’s longest-standing indigenous jazz vernacular, is here to receive its due. MacArthur “Genius” Award recipient and artistic director Michelle Dorrance, aims to honor tap dance’s uniquely beautiful history in a new and dynamically compelling context, not by stripping the form of its tradition, but by pushing it rhythmically, aesthetically and conceptually. Under the nimble feet of Dorrance Dance, street, club and experimental dance forms awake to the sound of furious rhythms “blasting open our notions of tap.”
“Ms. Dorrance… pushes the boundaries of tap while exposing its true nature: that it is music.” – The New York Times
