Wild & Native Ferns

Friday, September 22, 2017
9:00am – 11:00am

Middlesex County Extension Center

Ferns are all around us but, due to their lack of flowers and supposed difficulty of identification, they are often ignored. They have a singular beauty and can be identified with relative ease once you know a few key characteristics about their foliage and fruiting structures. After a lecture on fern identification at the Middlesex County Extension Center in Haddam, the ferns growing at the nearby Haddam Meadows State Park will be explored and identified. It will be helpful for you to have a hand lens. The class may run a bit over past 11:00 AM as we will carpool the approx. one-half mile from the Extension center to Haddam Meadows State Park to investigate and identify wild ferns. Please wear sturdy shoes for the field portion of the class.
