Playhouse on Park/The Greater Hartford Jewish Community

Hillel at the University of Connecticut/Jewish students at the University of Connecticut have organized a trip to attend the performance of The Diary of Anne Frank of Anne Frank” at the Playhouse on Park in West Hartford. The play is an adaptation of Anne Frank’s diary entries and tells her and her family’s story of living during the Holocaust. The play recounts the events of the Holocaust and portrays the anti-Semitism and hatred that existed at the time. While there is not a happy ending for Anne and most of her family, the show will teach the Jewish students why it is important to keep fighting to promote a life without hate. Students will learn what racism looks like on the most extreme end and, through reflection, will understand how racism is a part of world history. The retelling of the story will not just show what anti-Semitism looked like in 1940s Germany, but will show how important it is to retell the stories of the Holocaust and to continue to promote a life without racism and anti-Semitism. This play will instill the importance of remembering the past in order to ensure that history will not repeat itself so we can move towards a better and brighter future.
