Old State House Lecture Series: CT's Constitution of 1818

Thursday, February 22, 2018
12:00pm – 1:00pm

Downtown Hartford
Connecticut's Old State House (800 Main St.)

Join State Historian and UConn History Professor Dr. Walter Woodward on Thursday, February 22 at noon as he reflects on the similarity of Connecticut in 1818 and present day Connecticut: a troubled state seeking new direction. Dr. Woodward's lecture will highlight the perfect storm of crises in the Constitution State - environmental, economic, demographic, religious and political - happening in the years surrounding 1818 that forced Connecticut to rethink the ways it was conducting its affairs the previous two centuries. The comprehensive nature of this problem and accidental events that ultimately produced the constitutional transformation will offer essential insight for our equally challenging time in 2018. This program is the first in a series of upcoming programs commemorating the bicentennial of Connecticut's Constitution of 1818.
