UConn Chamber Singers: Considering Matthew Shepard- Stamford

Saturday, November 3, 2018
7:30pm – 9:00pm

Stamford Campus
St John's Episcopal Church

This is the first concert in our 2018-2019 Music for Humanity Concert Series. Written in 2016 by Craig Hella Johnson, this new oratorio recounts the brutal murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student in Laramie, Wyoming. Johnson weaves together a vast range of musical styles to reflect the universality of this story.

The UCONN Chamber Singers will join CONCORA to mark the twentieth anniversary of Matthew Shepard’s death. Jamie Spillane will conduct, with Chris Shepard at the piano.

As a Music for Humanity concert, all ticket proceeds will go to benefit a local agency.

Choral music has the power to cross cultural boundaries and to move hearts, and CONCORA’s mission to reach a broad and diverse audience extends not only to the choral aficionado, but also to those who may be touched by the beauty of the choral art for the first time.
