An Empowered State of Mind: Asian American Biculturism and Liberation

Have you wrestled with what being Asian American means? What makes you Asian and what makes you American? Both? Neither? This interactive workshop will guide you through an exploration of bicultural Asian American identity in contemporary times.

rita zhang is a heart-based scholar activist from the Bay Area, California. She draws her strength from the experiences of her immigrant Chinese mother and growing up in predominantly working-class people of color neighborhoods. She has over 12 years of experience in grassroots, organizing, community-based non-profit and higher education spaces. She has worked on countless intersectional social justice issues, including racial coalition building, immigration reform, and student of color recruitment and retention. rita is passionate about fostering social justice communities centered on radical love, compassion, and empowerment.
