INTENDED AUDIENCE: Any University employee working in a non-laboratory setting (Laboratory employees will receive a general overview of personal protective equipment through the Lab Safety & Chemical Waste Management training course offered through the Chemical Safety Section). OSHA requires that employers provide training when employees are required to wear personal protective equipment when performing their jobs or tasks.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The topics of the course include the proper selection, use, maintenance, and limitations of personal protective equipment (PPE). It includes a description of the Workplace Hazard Assessment, an assessment that must be conducted by every supervisor or principal investigator within a shop or department, which identifies the hazards the employee is exposed to and the proper PPE to be used. See Workplace Hazard Assessment for information about the assessments. For more information about this course, contact Valerie Brangan (860-486-2982)
