Centering Youth Voices in Human Rights Education and Advocacy

Monday, October 21, 2019
9:00am – 3:00pm

Storrs Campus
Dodd Center Room 162

With the approaching 30th anniversary of the landmark international Convention on the Rights of the Child, we invite educators and community leaders to join us for a day-long workshop focused on creating opportunities for youth leadership and voice in classrooms and community-based organizations. In recent years, young people all over the world have become more engaged in advocacy and activism on issues such as climate change, gun violence, and migrant and refugee rights. To support their efforts, schools and communities can partner to provide students with the knowledge, values, and skills necessary to create meaningful civic participation and engagement. This workshop will bring together classroom educators, community-based practitioners, and youth leaders to explore centering youth voices in human rights education and advocacy.
