MCB Seminar Series welcomes Alecia Septer, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Marine Sciences, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

Hosted by Drs.Joerg Graf/Spencer Nyholm

" Environmental viscosity modulates interbacterial killing during habitat transition "

Dr. Septer will present data suggesting that the bioluminescent squid symbiont, Vibrio fischeri, activates its type VI secretion system upon transition from a planktonic to a host-like environment to eliminate natural competitors of the host niche.

Dr Septer is a microbiologist who uses marine model systems to study how bacterial competition impacts microbial community structure and function.
