MCB Seminar Series

Dr. Harry Higgs, Professor of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Dartmouth

“Multiple modes of interaction between mitochondria and the actin cytoskeleton” Summary: Mitochondria are dynamic organelles, dividing and re-fusing as part of homeostatic mechanisms such as mitophagy to maintain a healthy mitochondrial pool. We find that actin polymerization plays at least two distinct roles in mitochondrial dynamics, one in response to elevated cytosolic calcium, and the other in response to mitochondrial depolarization.
