2:00pm – 3:30pm

Storrs Campus
virtual meeting

The Rainbow Center has an opportunity to sponsor UConn-affilated faculty and staff to attend an upcoming interactive webinar on “LGBTQ+ Students’ Mental Health Well-being: Overcoming Current Barriers,” on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at 2:00pm – 3:30pm ET. The webinar will be presented by Barry Schreier, Ph.D., a past Director of UConn Counseling and Mental Health.

For many LGBTQ+ students, a college campus is a safe haven — a place they have longed to get to — where they can explore their identity, sometimes while still hiding it from their families. COVID-19 has presented so many challenges for students, and LGBTQ+ students are among the most vulnerable. Many have lost the only community they had. Being in limbo has exacerbated LGBTQ+ students’ mental health issues including depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts, according to the Trevor Project.

Join this critical conversation with your peers on August 11, 2020 when our expert presenter will explore how you, as an ally to your LGBTQ+ students, can assist and support them as the fall semester begins, whether they remain away from campus or return to campus. You’ll review the data on the impact of COVID-19 on LGBTQ+ students, talk through case studies and gain valuable resources on supporting students with intersectional identities.

You’ll walk away with the tools you need to be sensitive and responsive to your LGBTQ+ students so you can help them engage, succeed and persist toward graduation.
