The Secondary English Education program at the Neag School presents "(Re)Imagining a More Just English Education" series.

This session, "Queering ELA," will focus on discussing the article titled “#Sounding OutMySilence: Reading a LGBTQ Youth’s Sonic Cartography as Multimodal (Counter)Storytelling.” It features Dr. Jon Wargo of Boston University.

Taking place from September through November, these presentations will be accessible on Zoom. You can also join in-person viewing sessions in the Gentry Building.

JON M. WARGO, PH.D. IS AN ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN THE LYNCH SCHOOL OF EDUCATION & HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AT BOSTON COLLEGE. AN EDUCATIONAL RESEARCHER WHO ATTENDS CLOSELY TO QUALITATIVE METHODS, WARGO ENGAGES COMMUNITY-BASED, ETHNOGRAPHIC, AND MULTIMODAL METHODOLOGIES TO EXAMINE HOW DIGITAL MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY MEDIATES CHILDREN’S AND YOUTHS’ SOCIAL AND CIVIC EDUCATION.

A 2020 NAED/SPENCER POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW, WARGO’S CURRENT RESEARCH EXAMINES THE MATERIAL AND IDEOLOGICAL AFFORDANCES AND CONSTRAINTS ELEMENTARY TEACHERS IDENTIFY AS OBSTACLES AND SUPPORTS FOR TEACHING LGBTQ-INCLUSIVE SOCIAL STUDIES.
