For decades, mathematicians such as Martin Gardner, John Conway, Roger Penrose, and others have sought to capture the minds of non-mathematicians with logic puzzles, brain teasers, and games. Published in books or as newspaper columns, "recreational math" tantalizes readers with new and exciting problems that require little knowledge of advanced mathematical concepts. Today, the tradition of exploring and sharing math ideas in fun, informal contexts takes on other forms, such as Numberphile videos on YouTube, UConn professor @mathandcobb on TikTok, and Alex Bellos's Monday Puzzles in The Guardian. This week, we will solve some ``recreational math" style puzzles together, from Alex Bellos's book "Can You Solve My Problems?" and Martin Gardner's "Entertaining Mathematical Puzzles".
Note: Free refreshments.
