Combatting Invisibility of Asian American Students: How Schools Can Support their Asian American Students & Their Families

Featuring - Phitsamay Sychitkokhong Uy, Ed.D. Associate Professor, Leadership in Schooling University of Massachusetts, Lowell

Asian Americans have been in the United States since 1750 but much is not known about their contributions or experiences. Fast forward 273 years later, 2.7 million Asian American students are enrolled in U.S. public schools. Asian American students have been at the center of major court cases such as Lau v. Nichols which established English language learning programs to the current Supreme Court Case of Challenging Affirmative Action at Harvard and UNC. Despite the significance of these major court cases, at the local level Asian American students are marginalized and sometimes underserved. Come learn how to better support Asian American students and their families.
